Even though hairballs are the topic of jokes when we talk about cats, they can be quite a discomfort for yours. A cat owner can go through a shock with their first experience of a hairball. The reason for this is because cat hairballs do not often look like hair. The hairball can vary in size depending on the amount of hair that has been swallowed by your cat. Domestic cats groom themselves to get rid of loose hairs. When there is enough hair that it is not possible for it to go through the intestines it becomes a fur ball. Most fur balls come out through the feces but in some cases the quickest way for the cat to get rid of a large hairball is to vomit.
A good way of avoiding your cat to have to vomit their hairballs is to groom them yourself to get rid of loose hairs and to give your cat flavored lubricants which are especially made to help your cat get rid of the hairballs through his or her feces. Cats with long hair are more likely to get a hairball so be sure to groom your long haired cat frequently. A good dietary aid that can help your cat have less hair balls is dry food that is high in protein. Be sure that the dry food bag mentions something about hairball control. If your cat has no interest in food, is constipated, and has dry cough, you cat may have a hairball problem. Do not wait for these symptoms to give your cat the proper car to prevent these hairballs. |
